Gila Lane was born in Brooklyn, New York during WWII. Colors, textures and shapes have inspired Gila since her earliest explorations with finger paintings and mud pies. She started taking pictures with her precious Brownie camera when she was six and is still snapping. Gila studied at The School of Visual Arts and The Art Students League in New York City.
Professional photographer, as well as painter, her works offer spirited, intimate perspectives of the places and people she has met while visiting the Americas, Europe and the South Pacific. Before becoming a full time artist, Gila worked in television broadcasting as a photographer, costume designer, writer, director and producer. In the last three decades of the 20th century her main work was shooting portraits of celebrities. Her work has appeared on The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson, The Sonny & Cher Show, and in such publications as Time Magazine and Rolling Stone Magazine.
These days her favorite subject is portraits of people she has met since living in Portland, Oregon. She makes her home with her husband Paul Block (TV Producer), and her cats: Puss and Boots and dogs: Jammer and Rousseau.
